Tim Nahumck wrote a great article called This is Not for Me. Known as the Drafts Guy normally, Tim dives into the new trackpad for the iPad.

What I like about this article is how transparent he is about his setup and his needs. In the article, he says:

“In watching the video reviews, my early suspicion of the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro was confirmed: I won’t be getting it. Not because it’s bad, but rather it comes down to a matter of use cases for me. Sure, weight and cost are also factors, but I need to be able to actually use the device if I’m going to make this device a good fit.”

I love the last line. “…I need to be able to actually use the device…” seems so simple. However, how many times do we…or perhaps I should say, do I buy a device or an accessory because it’s the latest fad. I hear other people praise it and I buy it.

My house is littered with items that I purchased base off reviews I’ve read from other people. Unfortunately, a lot of those items are sitting around collecting dust because I “just had to have it”.

This pandemic has me rethinking a lot of stuff in my life. I’ve cancelled some subscriptions that I had because I wasn’t using them like I thought I would. I’ve been spending a lot more time doing some other things, like recording a couple of podcasts. A sports one here. And another personal one here.

So this seems like a good time to look at devices and accessories. Perhaps, I should learn how to recite the last line of Tim’s post: “this is not for me. And that’s OK.”
