A couple of weeks ago, I had a thought. Turns out it was a bad thought. Let me back up first. I have mentioned many times that I am a huge proponent of the app Drafts. I’ve been using it for years and it has resided in my dock for just about that entire time. Other apps in my dock change, but Drafts does not.

As mentioned before Drafts is where my writing starts. I use it to write blog posts. My sports reports for East Texas Radio are composed in Drafts. Lots of text messages and emails come to life in that application. It’s a really good app.

With the ability to create Workspaces in Drafts, I have also housed a lot of my notes in there. About a month ago, I decided to start migrating notes to Apple Notes. I outlined why in this article.

After trying this approach for several weeks, I have decided this is not for me. For one, Drafts can do everything Apple Notes can do. Two, if I’m putting everything in Drafts anyways, why add the extra step of sending it to Apple Notes? Three, I’m way more familiar with the way Drafts works than I am Apple Notes.

So, earlier this week, I started migrating back to Drafts. It just feels right. I like having everything in one spot. I have to figure out how to store images but I can figure that out. For now I have these different workspaces:

Inbox - a place where everything goes in the beginning
General - tagged items that do not fit into another workspace
Writing - where all the writing happens, duh
Sports - sports reporting, game information, sports reports for radio Podcast - notes for The Essential Sports Podcast and my personal podcast go here
Work - pertaining to my day job
Church - sermon notes, Bible study notes, etc

I may add another one for taxes so I can easily find mileage, expenses, etc. I haven’t decided on that one yet. For now, this is my setup and I like it. I still dump everything to the inbox and then it gets processed. Sometimes it becomes a reminder, a calendar event, an email, a text message or perhaps a note. Sometimes it’s a one and done case like an address or a phone number. In those cases, they get trashed after use.

I did hear Tim Nahumck talk about using lists in Drafts and then linking it to a reminder. I like that and I’m playing around with that as well. So, in conclusion, sometimes the best thing for you is something you’re already using. Yeah…cheesy way to end the post. I know.
