Day One
I touched on this briefly earlier, but I’ve really been interested in keeping a journal. I have the app Day One but have never really used it to its full potential.
That is until recently. A friend of mine mentioned how he was using IFTTT to automatically take his blog posts and post them into a journal in Day One. This way he has all of his posts in one location.
This intrigued me to the point that I decided to copy it and try the same thing. So, I set it up using the formula that takes an RSS feed and posts it to Day One. Works like a charm. Now, everything I post to my blog is entered into Day One as a new journal entry. If the post has photos, it copies them over as well.
Then I started thinking about a recap of my day in Day One. Like I said, here, I write a lot as it is. So I don’t want to find myself writing a ton of other stuff to capture my day.
The solution? It comes from an article I read on The Sweet Setup. In there, they mentioned the habit of journaling and they talked about the practice of journaling by writing one sentence. That’s all. Even I can manage that. So, every night right after I take some medications, I sit down and type out one sentences that incorporates my day. Something, that Greg from 5 years from now, can read and remember what happened.
There are other things I’m looking Day One for but I’ll get to those in a future post.
