Personal Brand
The other day I was mowing the yard and listening to a podcast with Jason Snell and David Sparks called Focused. In this particular episode, they talked to Shawn Blanc about being creative.
The conversation was great. I’ve been a fan of Shawn’s for a long time and I love what he’s doing with The Sweet Setup. However, that’s not what caught my attention in this episode. Instead it was Jason answering some questions from listeners. One of those questions really caught my attention.
The question was about being successful with a blog. Jason’s answer involved building a personal brand. This is something I’ve heard discussed many times before and I’ve thought about it here and there. For some reason, though, when Jason discussed it this time it really clicked with me.
I’m a sports guy. I’ve always been a sports guy. That’s what I do. That’s what I love. I’ve been writing on this blog a lot and it’s been fun but I’ve tried staying away from sports. I don’t know why. I guess I was trying to do something different. Trying to branch out if you will. Maybe this wasn’t the best approach though. Maybe my personal brand is sports. High school, college, professional and any other kind of sports out there.
Perhaps I’ve been doing this wrong. I’m not sure. I’m also not sure where I will go from here. I like doing what I’m doing here but I do think I need to start incorporating more posts about sports. It’s who I am and it’s in my nature.
