I May Have a Slight Problem
For years I used to rearrange my iPhone homescreen. I was never happy with it. I would arrange icons based on color and functionality. I would easily change apps so that the color pattern would remain together. I would spend hours every week fidgeting with it. I could never get the right combination of apps.
Then, one day, I saw a blog post where someone suggested removing all the apps from the homescreen and leaving it blank. I loved the idea and I tried it. My homescreen stayed that way for several years.
That is until iOS 14 showed up at my doorstep. Now, thanks to widgets, I am back to where I used to be. I cannot find the right combination that I like with my phone. Drafts is my favorite app. I’ve talked about it over and over again on this blog as well as my podcast. The widget for Drafts is so powerful and so perfect for what I need that I have it on my home screen. After that, it’s a toss up.
I have switched between Launcher, Widgetsmith, Widget Wizard, GoodTask just to name a few. The list really does go on and on and on.
These are just a few of the apps and widgets I’ve tried on my homescreen. Perhaps it’s time to take a step back again. Several years ago I decided to go without any apps on my home screen. Perhaps it’s time to make that choice about Widgets too. Perhaps I need to make the choice to get rid of widgets. Well, except for Drafts. That’s one widget that will stay regardless.
