Weekend Sports Observations for Monday, Dec. 14th
We’re getting down to the last couple of weeks in the NFL season and some things are becoming quite clear. Other divisions/races are becoming quite muddy. With that said, here we go:
- The Washington Football Team just continues to impress. The NFC East is theirs if they want it. The problem is, do they want it? The way this division is, next Monday we’ll be talking about a different team poised to win the division.
- You have to feel good about Andy Dalton, right? I mean to have the PA Announcer at Paul Brown Stadium announce him by name as he led the Cowboys out of the tunnel is really cool.
- Speaking of Dallas. Where did that defense come from? Three fumble recoveries basically in the first quarter. I say basically because the third one was on the first play in the second quarter.
- Josh Allen. Enough said.
- Speaking of that game, what has happened to Pittsburgh? They started the season 11-0 and in a matter of six days lost back to back games. And Sunday’s game wasn’t even close. The Bills led by Josh Allen (have I mentioned his name yet?) recovered nicely after a slow start to defeat the Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
- How about Jalen Hurts. First career start and a win over the New Orleans Saints. Granted the Saints were without Drew Brees again but a win is a win in the NFL.
- There were some crazy one-handed catches in the NFL. AJ Brown had one that was ridiculous for the Titans. But the one that got me was the one made by Colts defensive back Kenny Moore. With Indy up 17-14 late in the first half, Vegas had the ball inside the 20 yard line and threatened to take the lead. Raider quarterback Derek Carr lofted a ball in the back of the end zone to Darren Waller. Moore went up and came down with a one-handed interception.
- Derrick Henry had what would be considered a career game for most people. But for Henry, it was just another day at the office. Henry went for 215 yards on 26 attempts. He averaged 8.3 yards per carry. That’s insane.
- Speaking of crazy numbers, Stefon Diggs caught his 100th pass on Sunday night. He’s the first person to 100 receptions this season. More importantly for Bills fans, he tied Eric Moulds for the most receptions in a season by a Bills wide receiver. Barring something freaky, Diggs will pass Moulds. This is why Buffalo traded for him.
- I’m glad basketball is right around the corner. Let’s go ahead and start the “Luka for MVP chants!”
