I had multiple people tell me I should read Ready Player One. I had it downloaded in my Audible library for a while but I never gave it a listen. Last week, I finished the book I was listening to (Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising) and decided to give Ready Player One a listen.

The book is read by Wil Wheaton of Star Trek Next Generation fame (or more recently The Big Bang Theory). From the moment I hit play I was totally immersed in the story. Ernest Cline does an amazing job writing this story and the characters. I loved the nostalgic references to 80’s pop culture. Whether it was a movie reference, song or video game, they all brought back memories.

I thought Weaton was brilliant doing the reading as well. He brought the characters to life and I loved how he delivered some of the sarcastic lines in the book. All in all, this is easily a top-ten book for me. As a matter of fact, I listened to all 16 hours in record time for myself. I couldn’t put it down.

I know Ready Player Two is out and I plan on picking that one up as well. I also plan on watching the Ready Player One movie at some point in time. I’m not sure when, though. For now, I’m going to move on to the next book in line: The Enemy.
