So I had a friend of mine mention that he doesn’t want to see any 2020 Year in Review posts because everyone knows what kind of year it was. And, to be honest, he’s right. Everyone battled the same type of things.

New practices became part of our everyday routine. We learned what social distancing really is. We quarantined. We shut down our economy. We all wore masks. It was quite the year.

So, in order to honor Steven’s wishes, I will not go through a review. Instead, let me talk about lessons learned.

  1. We all learned what is really important in life. A lot of us were forced to stay home more with family due to sporting events being closed. More people started working from home and schools finished out the year with students learning from their house. We were forced to spend time with people we live with. In some aspects, 2020 brought us closer to each other.
  2. People I know lost loved ones this year. What made it different than years past is the fact that their loved ones couldn’t have visitors in the hospital so they left this world with family members unable to be by their side. We learned to value each and every moment we have with our loved ones. Young or old, 2020 showed us that we are not guaranteed tomorrow.
  3. Not sure about you, but I learned to love cooking again. I’ve always loved to cook but I have become so busy that I stopped taking time to enjoy it. This year reintroduced me to my love for the kitchen.
  4. We realized the importance of corporate worship and the innovative ways people used to still have church. Facebook Live, YouTube and other streaming services became church for a lot of people in 2020.
  5. People realized they can still create great content during a pandemic. Whether it was podcasting, YouTube videos or something totally different, people created great content and we got to enjoy every bit of it.

There are so many more lessons that could be brought up here but these are a few that stood out to me from this year. I hope we can take these lessons and others we learned from 2020 and implement them into 2021 and beyond.
