Here we are! The first week of 2023. It’s hard to believe how fast 2022 went by. Of course, I think we say that every year.

It was a different year for me. At the beginning of the year I was laid off from my job. A job in which I had spent nearly 18 months working at. I got a new job within a week so it wasn’t a total loss. Although the new job is along the same type of work, it’s also completely different from what I’m used to. I came from working with pipe and welding. Now I’m working with wood and screws.

Also last year, I saw my broadcasting career hit a new level. I’ve broadcast High School sporting events on the radio for the last decade. Football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball…I’ve done them all. I love to broadcast games. Last year I added television broadcasting. Well streaming broadcasting is more accurate. I got to broadcast on football, volleyball and basketball games on ESPN+. That has been a learning experience and a lot of fun too.

There were so many things that happened last year (both good and bad) that I can’t even recall everything. Things like going to a Garth Brooks concert. Watching Luka Doncic put up the NBA’s first ever 60/20/10 game. Sitting three rows behind the Bills bench for a Sunday night football game. To name a few.

One thing is for certain. Life happens. Life happens fast too. As the saying goes:

“Don’t blink or you might miss it!”

That’s why 2023 is an important year for me. It’s year in which I have determined to make some changes. I don’t want to wake up on December 31st this year and wonder where the rest of the year went. I want to wake up and know that I gave attention to what mattered. To those things that I hold close to me. Things like my faith. And my family. I want to make the most of every opportunity and every day that I am given. I see people my age that are losing health battles all the time and its a constant reminder of how short life is.

So in 2023, I want to become the best version of myself that I can be. I want to go to bed at night knowing that I have won the day. Whatever that means for that particular day. I want to win the day. I want to live with a purpose.
